Regarding the Jan. 20 editorial “The dark money flashlight gets new batteries,”
I respect and admire Terry Goddard. I worked on all of his statewide campaigns. But he is wrong.
The problem is not solved with disclosure and transparency. The problem will be solved only when the campaign financing mechanisms are changed.
Although Clean Elections has been gutted, a Clean Elections-like mechanism is needed that will pass constitutional muster and provide adequate funding for candidates.
The Arizona Legislature will not offer such a mechanism, so our only option is a citizens initiative.
