This week is the last week at the legislature for bills to be heard in committee in their house of origin and our last chance to kill some of the nasty bills that we have seen come up so far this session. We're hoping to have a long list of dead bills to report next week!
Here is what we have coming up this week:
HCR 2004- the Clean Elections Commission defund bill- is back (again) on the House Appropriations agenda at 2PM on Wednesday, February 15th after being held in committee for a few weeks in a row. This is the last week that it is allowed to be heard in committee in the House and our last chance to kill it for the rest of this session.
Republicans: Chairman Rep. Don Shooter (LD13), Vice-Chairman Rep. David Livingston (LD22), Rep. Russell Bowers (LD25), Rep. Heather Carter (LD15), Rep. Regina Cobb (LD5), Rep. Vince Leach (LD11), Rep. Jill Norgaard (LD18), Rep. Tony Rivero (LD21), and Rep. Michelle Ugenti-Rita (LD23)
Democrats: Rep. Lela Alston (LD24), Rep. Mark Cardenas (LD19), Rep. Ken Clark (LD24), Rep. Charlene Fernandez (LD4), and Rep. Randall Friese (LD 9)
If you live in any of these members’ districts, call them and urge them to vote to protect Clean Elections and vote no. If you have already used the Request to Speak tool to sign in against HCR 2004, your position on the bill will have carried over to this week so there is no need to log in again. If you have not logged in yet, please do so before 2PM on Wednesday, February 15th. We already have an incredible amount of people logged in against HCR 2004- thank you!
This Thursday, February 17 at 9:30AM, HB 2404 is being heard in House Government. HB 2404, sponsored by Rep. Vince Leach and backed by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, is a threat to our constitutional right to put initiatives on the ballot.
Republicans: Chairman Douglas Coleman (LD16), Vice-Chairman Bob Thorpe (LD6), Rep. Todd Clodfelter (LD10), Rep. Drew John (LD14), and Rep. Michelle Ugenti- Rita (LD23)
Democrats: Rep. Ken Clark (LD24), Rep. Ray Martinez (LD30), and Rep. Athena Salman (LD26)
If you live in any of these members’ districts, call them and ask them to vote no on HB 2404. This is the first week that HB 2404 is on the agenda, so please log in to the legislature’s Request to Speak took and sign in against the bill.
Thank you for all of your support!
